*Openings on Shift 2 (2pm-10:30pm) and Shift 3 (10pm-6:30am)*

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Security Officer performance activities necessary to the provision of a safe and secure environment for employees, patients and visitors of the hospital.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conforms to the established Standards of Behavior
  • Makes rounds of assigned areas, investigating and documenting on a Security Incident Report all unusual or suspicious incidents and initiating corrective action as appropriate.
  • Observes employees for identification badges and counsels as needed.
  • Escorts visitors to desired location.
  • Makes outside rounds of hospital property according to established schedule or as assigned.
  • Makes inside rounds of hospital property according to established schedule or as assigned.
  • Provides assistance to other security personnel and hospital employees as necessary to ensre adequate monitoring and follow-up of unusual occurrences.
  • Provides assistance, direction and guidance in resolving problems or complaints, informing supervisors of reportable situations and actions taken.
  • Observes and documents the non-conformance of policies and procedures including but not limited to fire, disaster, electrical, safety and infection control policies and procedures.
  • Completes all paperwork as required (Security Incident Reports, General Case Reports, Special Condition Reports, Lock Operating Requests, Traffic Parking Notices, etc.)
  • Demonstrates discretion in handling confidential informantion; maintains confidentiality of all employee, patients, visitor, phusician, hospital and security related information.
  • Responds to calls from nursing and other hospital departments in a timely manner to assist in the managerment of disorderly patients and/or visitors.
  • Transporting patients in wheelchairs or those using assist devices.
  • Releases deceased patients from the emergency room morgue.
  • Accepts and releases lost and found items (per policy) as needed.
  • Responds to Emergency Codes
  • Responds to requests for additional manpower to cover shift shortages
  • Responds to requests for special event staffing as requested
  • Informs Manager/Officer in Charge of unusual activities, investigations, observations and actions taken.
  • Adhers to the Security Uniform Policy
  • Other duties as assigned

Pay Rate: $20 per hour

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent; college preferred.
  2. Minimum one-year experience in a security-related field preferably in a health care environment preferred.
  3. IAHSS Basic Certification or 20-hour or more Security Training Certificate preferred.
  4. Current/valid Illinois Driver’s license to drive hospital Security vehicle required.
  5. CPI certification required within 30 days of hire.
  6. Ability to remain calm, take command, provide guidance, make sound independent decisions, and resolve conflicts during security incidents and emergency situation, until police arrive.
  7. Excellent verbal communication skills.
  8. Must have valid driver’s license
  9. Must have a PERC card within 6 months of employment
