Job Summary
Provides direction with daily operations and activities of the therapy (OT, PT, SLP) team. Responsible for operations in acute care, joint university, OP and IP rehab as related to therapy care. Coordinates and facilitates program development and process improvement. Provides advanced/specialized therapy services appropriate to patients’ needs, utilizing necessary resources to ensure optimal patient care. Provides training and guidance to the Therapy team.
Job Duties
- * Demonstrates the WMH Customer Service Values, which are key in providing quality service to patients and customers.
- *Assists in management of day-to-day operations of the therapy areas, recommends and maintains quality assurance/ safety/ environmental/infection control standards. Ensures legal and regulatory compliance.
- *Seeks methods to streamline operational systems to improve service efficiency and effectiveness.
- Observes documentation procedures based on departmental and medical record guidelines.
- *Participates in and supports performance improvement and risk management programs.
- *Coordinates the activities of unit personnel, materials and equipment to achieve unit objectives for cost-effectiveness to ensure compliance with the fiscal budget.
- Assists director with forecasting capital equipment priorities based on patient or unit needs and according to budget policy.
- *Plans for staffing by developing and adjusting staffing patterns based on patient census. Assures staff assignments are consistent with patient care requirements.
- Assists with Selection, evaluation and development of departmental personnel, maintains current employee records per HRS guidelines and regulatory standards with ability to recommend corrective action that may be needed.
- *Ensures all staff has been provided an in-depth departmental orientation by assisting or directing the orientation process specific to the unit.
- *Identifies, assesses, plans, directs, and evaluates educational and clinical professional development programs for assigned area. Provides opportunities for staff development and education through conferences and small group instruction.
- *Serves as a role model in clinical excellence for the unit(s) staff through provision of quality patient care as necessary. Provides direct age appropriate patient care in area of expertise when needed and facilitates unit in-services and care conferences. Maintains and enhances professional level of clinical competency through continuing education.
- Shapes and interprets the philosophy and definition of therapy as it relates to short and long-term planning, program and staff development, resource and budget management, quality assurance, and systems utilization.
- Evaluates quality of patient care provided and the skill level and values of staff. Identifies competencies requiring review, updating, and annual testing and provides staff feedback on their performances.
- *Evaluates patient/physician satisfaction and problem solves to improve. Establishes and implements clinical standards, operational objectives, and program development initiatives.
- *Interprets and assists with the development, implementation, and evaluation of unit goals, objectives, policies/procedures, and standards of care which contribute to the achievement of the organization’s strategic plan.
- *Participates in professional organizations or peer networks and serves as contributing member on assigned councils, committees, programs, and task forces
Job Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited school in OT, PT or Speech Therapy with Bachelors or Master’s degree or verification by AOTA, ASHA, or APTA of equivalent training in another country. Current Illinois license.
- Five years experience as clinical expert in licensed discipline and two years supervisor experience. Knowledge of JCAHO, IDPH, and other regulatory bodies is required.
- CPR Certification required, presents one in-service per year. Must complete mandatory safety programs.
- Good organization skills and interpersonal skills required.
- Outstanding ability to communicate verbally and in writing in order to effectively interact internally and externally.
- Average computer skills necessary to access patient databases, e-mail systems, etc.
- Effective problem-solving skills and awareness and resolution of potential situations.
- Proven ability to guide therapy team through the use of excellent problem solving skills and maintain team environment.
