Job Summary

Provides advanced/specialized occupational therapy services appropriate to patients’ needs, utilizing necessary resources to ensure optimal patient care. Provides training and guidance to the Occupational Therapy team.

Job Duties

· Demonstrates advanced skills in evaluating, interpreting, planning, educating, and implementing age-appropriate and functional occupational therapy treatment for patients. Is responsible for using specialty skills in specific practice areas when applicable in addition to performing staff OT duties including but not limited to assessment of underlying nerve, muscle, joint integrity to support functional activity and provision of complex treatments utilizing modalities, therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, neuromuscular re-education, ADL training/use of adaptive equipment, splinting/orthotics, wound care, visual-perceptual / sensory-integration, and/or community re-integration techniques.

· Establishes and revises treatment plan based on physician orders, patient/caregiver input, evaluation results and patient progress.

· Serves as clinical resource for occupational therapy team.

· Ensures treatment outcomes meet program standards and reimbursement criteria and facilitate optimal discharge planning.

· Independently performs all duties required to maintain and complete patient records in timely manner.

· Communicates effectively with patients, caregivers, other team members to coordinate and educate on the goals and treatment plans.

· Maintains confidentiality of patient records and information.

· May assist the Manager or Director in the coordination of department operations.

· Actively pursues professional development and educational opportunities to expand clinical expertise.

· Attends all mandatory and relevant in-services and meetings.

· Serves as a clinical instructor for occupational therapy students and interns.

· Promotes professional growth and program development of occupational therapy section.

· Works to promote understanding of occupational therapy roles within the rehabilitation program and the organization.

· Manages patient caseload and daily operations efficiently.

· Assists in orientation process for occupational therapy team, volunteers, students and professionals working in the rehabilitation program.

· Ensures appropriate delegation to and supervision of Rehab Technician, COTAs, students, interns and volunteers within occupational therapy.

· Provides occupational therapy team with clinical direction and feedback to optimize patient care by coordinating in-services, meetings, caseload review or co-treatments as appropriate.

· Assists with communicating and supporting program initiatives.

· Identifies opportunities for improvement in department programs and/or processes and participates in process improvement projects.

· Assists with defining and revising occupational therapy policies and procedures.

· Provides in-services / training in specialty related topics for other hospital or community groups.

· Ensures safety of patients, caregivers, and co-workers by adherence to health and safety guidelines.

· Monitors compliance with department cleaning, emergency/safety and infection control plans.

Job Qualifications

· Graduation from an accredited occupational therapy school with Bachelors or entry-level Master’s degree or verification by the AOTA of equivalent training in another country

· Current occupational therapy license in State of Illinois

· Two years of relevant clinical experience required, with a minimum of one year progressive responsibility preferred

· Specialty certification strongly preferred. Advanced clinical competency in relevant area of practice may be substituted.

· CPR certification

· Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor staff

· Basic English language competence for verbal and written communication in English language

· Effective interpersonal skills

· Strong organization and prioritizing skills
