JOB SUMMARY

The MDS Coordinator is responsible for the timely and accurate completion of the Minimum Data Set - for the SAR Unit. Under the direction of and collaboration with the Executive Director of Nursing, these individual uses knowledge and skills to function as a leader and consultant to the R.N. Managers and staff nurses. The individual in this role will promote ongoing development of the professional team, facilitating teamwork between all disciplines to accommodate the workflow and generate consistent, timely documentation and comprehensive care plans to maximize reimbursement for the facility. Promotes a restorative nursing philosophy among all facility departments


JOB QUALIFICATIONS

 Must possess, at a minimum, a Registered Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university and be licensed.

 Must be CPR certified

 Minimum 2 years of clinical and managerial experience in a Subacute care facility with emphasis on Medicare utilization and reimbursement issues.

Preference for a person with experience with MDS (Minimum Data Set) duties.

Pay Rate $45 - $50 per hour


JOB DUTIES

 

Responsible for the accurate and timely completion of the MDS, as required by Federal regulations and PDPM (Patient Driven Payment Model), Medicaid, managed care organizations and insurance companies

Reviews all of the records, enters the data and scores into the electronic system and receives codes for billing as well as submitting this information to CMS for all Medicare patients

Serves as the facility's lead resource for MDS/PDPM and state case-mix systems; instructing facility staff in terminology, language, and format that is required by MDS

Maintains a current and comprehensive knowledge of MDS and Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement, serving as a resource for nursing staff and communicate changes in regulations

Sends updates throughout the patient's stay for re-imbursed for the services provided.

Tracks Medicare/Medicaid patients to determine continued and appropriate Medicare eligibility and benefit period by determining skilled level of need.

Conducts concurrent MDS reviews to assure achievement of maximum allowable PDPM categories
